Cricketer Jayasuriya inaugurates Cricket Academy, VR Lab

JAMMU: Jammu's first ‘Virtual Reality Lab' was inaugurated at BOMIS Jammu on the occasion of the ‘Initiation Ceremony' by Legendary Sri Lankan Cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya as chief guest.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted in presence of Dr Panna Manhas Choudhary, Chairperson of the School and board members along with proud parents.

Principal Aparana Kohli welcomed and addressed the chief guest and esteemed gathering where she explained the vision behind setting up of the VR Lab. She said, "The reason behind installing this high profile lab is to provide students with innovative learning experience with a combination of technology and education"

"The VR lab is equipped with the latest technology and offers an extensive collection of immersive educational content in the realms of science, maths and social science and other disciplines," said Kohli.

A talk show was organized by the BOMIS students which kept the waiting spectators enthralled with their wit and humour as they vied with each other to impress and put their best foot forward in front of Sanath Jayasuriya. All the National level winners of the School, in the field of various fields were felicitated by the chief guest.

Meanwhile, Sanath Jayasuriya also inaugurated the Cricket Academy, which is an initiative to boost the Cricket talent in Jammu and Kashmir. He said catching the talent young was an idea behind bringing this Academy in the UT.

"There is no dearth of talent here but the players needed to be guided," said Jayasuriya. He also delivered an inspiring speech addressing the trainees and parents in the School Auditorium where he was able to connect equally with young and old alike as he espoused the immense validity that sports and games have in our lives.

"Sports impart discipline and sense of responsibility among the players, which is a key to the overall development of youth and to realise the cherished dreams," Jayasuriya said while addressing the audience.

He also emphasized the need to channelize their potential and talent in a positive direction which is found in every nook and corner of India and which if nurtured and facilitated can produce many more brilliant Cricketers. He spent quality hours with the budding cricketers, sharing technical nuances that would go a long way in turning aspiring cricketers to professional sportsmen.

School Principal Aparana Kohli expressed her deep gratitude to Sanath Jayasuriya for sharing important tips with the budding sportspersons and providing them the opportunity to nurture their enthusiasm and be a vehicle of commitment towards the same.
