Gaurav Pachnanda, Senior Advocate, fast-tracked to the English Bar

LONDON: Gaurav Pachnanda, Senior Advocate, has been appointed a Barrister at the Bar of England and Wales.

After being fast-tracked by granting an unconditional exemption from all academic and vocational components of qualification and training by the UK regulators, Gaurav Pachnanda was called to the Bar at a formal ceremony at the Middle Temple London, earlier this week, which was presided by The Right Honourable Lord Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice of Supreme Court of United Kingdom.

A complete and unconditional exemption from the academic and vocational components of qualification and training is granted only in exceptional cases, based upon assessment of a particular lawyer's body of work, professional experience and expertise in law. In 2013, Harish Salve, Senior Advocate was also fast-tracked to the Bar of England and Wales.

He a son of the soil and the elder son of late Dr V K Pachnanda, the founder Professor and Head of Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College, Jammu. He studied at BSF Secondary School Jammu and graduated with a degree in commerce from Govt SPMR College of Commerce. Thereafter, he studied law for the LLB degree at the Faculty of Law at Jammu University, before being elected to the prestigious Felix Scholarship for post-graduate study of law for the BCL degree at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford.

He started his practice before the Jammu & Kashmir High Court at Jammu in 1997 in the chambers Shri Permod Kohli, Senior Advocate (who was later elevated as a Judge of J&K High Court and served as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court). He also worked in the chambers of Shri Arun Jaitley, Senior Advocate.

Gaurav Pachnanda practices as a Senior Advocate before the Supreme Court of India and has a substantial practice in international commerical arbitration, which he undertakes as a Door Tenant at Fountain Court Chambers London and Singapore.
