NSS Campus Unit, JU organises Two Day Cleanliness & Plantation Drive

JAMMU: NSS Campus Unit-II, University of Jammu organized two days of Cleanliness Drive and Plantation Drive.

The NSS Volunteers of University of Jammu participated in the Cleanliness drive and Plantation drive under the theme "Go Green Stay Clean" on March 23rd &24th, 2023.

The day one started with the cleanliness drive around the Dhanvantri Library.

The drive was formally started by Prof. Neeru Sharma, Incharge Librarian,Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu.

The volunteers took the initiative to clean the surroundings of Dhanwantri Library.

The participants started picking up wrappers, broken glasses, bottles, disposals and waste material lying scattered here and there. After collecting them they threw them in the garbage bags.

The garbage was collected by the volunteers in the garbage bags and was then placed in the dustbins and which was further disposed off with the cooperation of Health Centre Employees of University of Jammu. Latter the volunteers painted the walls and rocks.

They also made paintings on the walls for the beautification of the area.On the second day plantation drive was organized and more than 50 fruit plants of various varieties including citrus fruits, mangoes, guava, litchi, loquat, peach, amala were planted in the backyard of Dhanvantri Library.

This area in future shall be maintained by NSS Volunteersand is named as "Nature's Paradise".

The cleanliness and plantation drive was conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor & Chairman NSS, University of Jammu, Jammu who lauded the efforts of all the volunteers for the successful conduct of the event and said that such events create awareness in motivating students to adopt practices towards maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings of the campus and to keep the Campus clean and green.

The event was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Savita Nayyar, Convener, NSS Campus Units and Dr. Hema Gandotra ,NSS Programme Coordinator , University of Jammu, Jammu, who said that cleanliness ensures a healthy mind and physique.

More than 70 NSS volunteers, students, scholars and employees of the University of Jammu participated in the drive. Prominent among those who were present in were Prof.Sangita Gupta, Dean Social-Sciences and Head of the Department of Library & Information Science, Professor Jasbir Singh,Head of the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, Dr. Shallu Seghal ,Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Dr. Mandeep Natyal, NSS Programme Officers, University of Jammu, Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Dr. Bindu Sharma, Dr. Reent Arti Thakur, Ajmer Singh, Rajeev Gupta, Devinder Singh, Manik Sharma and Tither Singh.

The event was successful with the joint efforts and services of the Landscaping and Arboriculture Department, University of Jammu ,Jammu.

The event was overall coordinated by Dr. Meghna Dhar, NSS Programme Officer, NSS Campus Unit-II, University of Jammu, Jammu. She said that the event was organized in order to spread the message of clean and green campus and to "Plant a Tree, Make Earth Pollution Free".

She said, "Earth Does Not Belong to Us, We Belong to It".The plantation and cleanliness drive will inculcate good green deeds among students, transforming them into responsible citizens and will help in creating values among them to live in harmony with nature.
