GDC Ramgarh organises national level conference on sustainable development, women empowerment

RAMGARH: Government Degree College Ramgarh in Collaboration with prestigious The Indian Science Congress Association, organized National Conference on "Science and Technology in Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment" (Multi- Disciplinary) on 24th of March 2023 to commemorate India's G20 Presidency in 2023.

The conference was inaugurated with the lightening of the ceremonial lamp and Saraswati Vandana followed by the formal welcome address by Prof. Dr. Satinder Kaur, Principal, GDC Ramgarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur highlighted the importance of sustainable development with women empowerment.

She emphasized the role of the Science and Technology to understand and navigate relationships among social, environmental and economic development and the contribution of women in particular.

Women, who make up half of the world's population, have continued to be overrepresented among the world's most vulnerable groups, and therefore a sustainable path of development can be achieved to ensure that women's interests are taken into consideration.

She further added that the polices of the state are for women empowerment through women entrepreneurships and the policies are percolating to target groups.

Thus empowering women in self reliance through S&T, digitalization, AI and other technologies for overall sustainable development, which is being one of the strategy in India's G20 Presidency.

Prof J. S. Tara, Convener, ISCA, Jammu Chapter, gave a detailed introduction about ISCA, its memberships, objectives. He also told the gathering about various Fellowships and travelling grants that the Association provides to the young researchers.
Dr. Kr. Ritu Singh, Guest of Honour of the Conference said that Women's empowerment has become a significant topic of discussion in development and economics. Economic empowerment allows women to control and benefit from resources, assets, and income. It also aids the ability to manage risk and improve women's well-being.

Benam Tosh, JKPS, SSP Samba said that there is a lot of crime against Women in the society and events like these conferences are a good step in spreading awareness regarding the crimes in the society. Further added that Police Department has been playing an active role in eradicating the Crime against Women. Thus helping Women empowerment.

Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Dean, Cluster University of Jammu said that such conference are a big source of knowledge sharing and associations like ISCA provide a great platform for young researchers to come up with innovative ideas that can contribute towards Sustainable development.

Neetu Bali, Special Guest Speaker, spoke about the role of women in Entrepreneurship:- Small and Medium businesses and encouraged the women to come forward for being self-reliant and financially independent.

The Keynote speaker of the day, Dr. Shweta Yadav, gave a detailed representation regarding how to fill gender gaps pertaining to STEM. She elaborated that in the Modern Times Women are expected to participate at par with Men in all the fields.

Prof. Naresh Padha, Chief Guest of the day, highlighted the role and importance of NEP-2020 in the overall development of Women. He said that new curriculum focuses on value added, multidisciplinary and skill enhancement courses for women Entrepreneurship and Employment.

The First technical session was chaired by Prof.(Dr.) Anuradha Pandoh, Principal GDC Jourian and the second the technical; session was chaired by Prof. Neeru Dhalla, Associate Professor, GDC Akhnoor. All the participants presented their research work with zeal and enthusiasm.

The vote of thanks for inaugural session was presented by Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Convener IQAC and for the technical session was presented by Prof. Seema Sharma.

The event was a huge Success, with over 60 participants attending from around the various institutions.

The conference provided a platform for participants to share their knowledge, best practices, and experiences on the uses of Science and Technology to promote Sustainable development and Women's empowerment.

The GDC Ramgarh along with ISCA felicitated women who are working towards Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship and Employability. Dr. Kr. Ritu Singh, Founding Chairperson, FICCI FLO J&K, Ladakh and Ms. Neetu Bali, Founder and CEO, Sunder Gems and Jewels, Sunder Enterprises were felicitated and acknowledged for their pioneer work these areas.

The other diginateries present were:- Dr. Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal GDC, Akhnoor; Prof. (Dr.) Pragaya Khanna, Principal GDC Hiranagar; Prof. Renu Sehgal, Principal, GDC Jindrah; Dr. Anuradha Pandoh, Principal, GDC Jourian.
