J&K Hunar Fest organised in PSPS PG College

JAMMUJ&K Hunar Fest: Culture and Cuisine competition was organized by the Department of Home Science showcasing the rich cuisine and culture of Jammu and Kashmir. 

The fest was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Minu Mahajan, the Principal of the college.

The festival showcased variety, uniqueness and affluence of Dogra, Kashmiri and Bhaderwahi food, culture and craft. The students participated with great zeal and fervor.

Students showcased traditional cuisines and culture of various districts of J&K including Jammu, Kashmir and Bhaderwah in the festival. Rich art and craft of J&K like Basohli paintings, Paper machie, Namda and Gabba, Dogri, Kashmiri and Bhaderwahi costumes were also displayed during the event.

Participants showcased the rich culture of Jammu and Kashmir by depicting the various rituals like saant di dham, rutt rarre, naag panchmi , Dogri and Kashmiri wedding rituals, Kunchauth and many more. A large number of visitors enjoyed the delicacies of Dogra, Badherwah and Kashmiri cuisines served in different stalls.

The main attractions of the fest were live stalls of Bhaderwahi chatrohi, dainties of Kashmir like Dum aloo, Nadru Yakhni, dogra delicacies like kachalu, kimb and kalari.

Dr. Anuradha Gandotra Head of Food Science and Technology Department, Dr. Deepika Gupta, Associate Professor Dept of Chemistry and Dr. Anju Koul, Assistant Professor Dept. of Botany were the jury members on the occasion.

The first prize was shared by two groups showcasing Bhaderwahi cuisine and Sant di Dham, the second prize was secured by a group showing the Dogra ritual of Nag Panchami, and the third prize was also shared by two groups both showcased Kashmiri culture and cuisine.

Congratulating everyone associated with the Hunar Fest, the Principal Prof. Minu Mahajan said, "Our unique diversity is our pride and our biggest strength". She said our sole aim of organizing this fest and competition is to revive the old cultural traditions of our state and showcase various dimensions of our diverse but united culture to everyone.

The event was organized under the convenership of Dr. Irvinder Kour , Head of Home Science Department and organizing committee comprising Dr. Anjali Bhat, Prof. Neelam Bhagat, Dr. Ramandeep Kour, Dr. Neelima Gupta and Prof. Shivani Sawhney with logistic support of Music Department.
