Haryana CA lifts Police Martyrs tournament title

DGP presides over valedictory function as chief guest

KATHUA: Haryana Cricket Academy lifted the 11th Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Tournament title by defeating Vicky XI Pathankot by 29 runs in the finals, played at Sports Stadium, Kathua.

DGP Dilbag Singh was chief guest of the closing ceremony and presided over the valedictory function. He was accompanied by ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh and paid floral wreath at martyrs gallery and lit the lamp to pay homage to the brave martyrs in presence of other dignitaries and police officials including DIG JSK Range Shakti Pathak, AIG Welfare PHQ Dr. Abhishek Mahajan and SSP Samba Benam Tosh, Commandant IRP 19th Bn. Dr. Koshal Kumar, Principal Police Training School Kathua Roop Lal Bhagat and SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh.

Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua patron, Dr Jatinder Singh, president Ravinder Singh Salathia, general secretary Rakesh Singh Sumbria and members, families of martyrs and officials of civil administration were also present during the event.

The DGP appreciated the efforts of Kathua Police and said that events like Cricket and Marathon organised in Kathua have gained popularity across the nation. He appreciated the Shaheed Welfare Committee in organizing the tournament on this scale.

Paying tribute to the martyrs of J&K Police, the DGP thanked families of martyrs and people for being regular part of the event. He hoped and prayed that the bond between Police Pariwar and people would grow stronger in future as well.

The DGP congratulated the winners of the 11th edition of the tournament and distributed trophies and mementos among the winners.

ADGP Mukesh Singh in his address thanked the DGP J&K for providing continuous support for organizing these tournaments and other sports activities. He congratulated the participating teams, sponsors and people of Kathua for making the event a grand success.

Earlier, SSP Shivdeep Singh Jamwal in his welcome address gave a brief of the tournament and other sport initiatives, taken by the District Police.

During the tournament 31 matches including league, quarter final, semi final and final were played. In total 16 teams participated in the championship, in which the final match was played between Vicky XI Pathankot and Haryana Cricket Club Academy.

After winning the toss, Haryana Cricket Club Academy decided to bat first. Batting first, Haryana Cricket Academy scored 125 runs in 20 overs by losing 7 wickets in which Jasmeet Nain scored 57 runs in 49 balls, studded with 7 boundaries and Vipun scored 33 runs in 32 balls with the help of 3 boundaries & a six.

In reply, Vicky XI Pathankot was unable to chase down the set target and got all out on 96 runs in just 19.4 overs. Jasmeet Nain of Haryana CA was declared the man of the match and was awarded with Rs 21000 along with a trophy. The "Player of Tournament" was won by Surinder Sandhu (Vicky XI Pathankot) and was awarded "Maruti Car Alto 800".

Sahil Dull (Haryana CA) was declared the best bowler while Dhruv Singh (Sabhi XI Cricket Club) was declared the best batsman. Both were awarded "Motor Bikes" for their splendid performance. The winning team was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3.50 lakh, whereas the runner up team was given Rs 2.50 lakh.
