Heavy security outside Indian Mission in London keeps Khalistani protesters at bay

LONDON: Security was heightened outside the Indian High Commission in London on Wednesday to prevent the Khalistani protesters from coming close to the building. Even as the Indian Mission's building was surrounded by barricades, the protesters threw ink and water bottles at the security officials.

Videos shared on social media showed the UK police deployed outside the Indian High Commission to stop the Khalistan supporters from getting close to the building as the protestors raised slogans.

A giant Tricolour was also put up by the Indian High Commission team atop the building as the Khalistani supporters protested.

The deployment comes after the Indian government registered a strong protest over the lack of security outside the Indian Mission due to which Khalistani protestors - a few days ago - had pulled down the Indian flag unfurling outside the Indian High Commission.

Later, in response, the Indian High Commission put up a huge Indian flag on its building.

Several diaspora groups gathered for a "We Stand By High Commission of India" festive demonstration outside India House in London on Tuesday as a show of solidarity following vandalism.

The protest is said to have been called in response to the actions of the Indian Police in Punjab against fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and his aides.

Earlier in the day, all barricades in and around the residence of the British High Commissioner in New Delhi were removed.

The move was perceived as a response to the lack of security at the Indian High Commission in the UK when the vandalism took place.
