One day Symposium on 'Why Sustainable Development' held at GCW Udhampur

UDHAMPUR: In a bid to commemorate India's Presidency year, Literary Club and Shikshit Bharat Club Government College for Women Udhampur today organized Symposium, with the theme ‘WHY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT' where Prof. Dr. Monika Sharma was the chief guest on the moment.

In her address, Dr. Monika Sharma while addressing the participants appealed that India is a nation that deeply committed to democracy and multilateralism and India's presidency would be a watershed moment in her history as it sees to play an important role by finding pragmatic global solutions for well-being of all, and in doing so, manifest the true spirit of ‘VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM' or World is one.

On sustainable development she said "it always encourages us to conserve and enhance our resources, by gradually changing the manner in which we develop and use technologies".

"All the countries should meet their basic needs employment, Food, Energy, Water and Sanitation. Everybody is rightful to a healthy, safe and clean environment," she added.

Arun Gupta [Librarian] was the chief resource person on this occasion who deliberated on importance of Sustainable development, he said sustainable development is referred to as idea that human beings should sustain by meeting their basic needs, while also making sure that future generations are able to meet their basic needs. Convener Literary Club, Dr. Mool Raj, said it is a way of organizing the society by which it can exist or long duration without compromising on availability of resources.

The concept is not new it has been followed by many cultures over the course history with an aim of maintaining the balance between man and nature.

Dr. Monika applauded the efforts of Shikshit Bharat Club and Literary club for organizing such events helpful in the promotion of sensitivity of nature, responsibility and global understanding among students in dispensing their duties as future citizens. She further appealed the other departments to organize such programs in the near future to create awareness among young students about global phenomena.

The entire event was organized Under the convenorship of Dr. Mool Raj HOD Urdu.

Around 100 students of the college attended the programme. Ten student presented their views on the topic including Saniya Akhter, Shallu Devi, Neena Devi, Rabia, Nisha Devi, Priyanka Sharma, Vandana, Shruti Mahajan, Nisha Rani and Shehnaz Akhter. The participants were also presented with the certificates.

The entire Proceeding of the programme was carried on and convened by Prof. Yash Paul, Convenor Shikshit Bharat Club, Who also presented the formal vote of thanks on this occasion.

The other members who remained present on this occasion were Dr. Seema Sharma Prof. Kewal Kumar Prof. Shallu Jasrotia, Prof. Rekha Sharma, Prof. Shama Rani, Dr. Sumit Kumar, Sanjeev Upadhyaya, and Rajinder Singh.
