GDC Kathua hosts 2-day workshop to mark International Women's Day

KATHUA: Centre for Women Studies of Government Degree College Kathua, organized a two days workshop on the eve of International women's day in the college campus.

Tehsildar Headquarters, Surinderjeet Kour was the chief guest while Coordinator Mission Shakti, Madam Itika Gupta was the guest of honour on the occasion.

On the first day of the event, a lecture was organised to commemorate Women's Day and on the 2nd day Poster making competition was organized.

Coordinator, CWS, Dr. Rachna Devi, in her welcome address said that International Women's Day is celebrated every year to take an opportunity and encourage all to actively celebrate women's achievement, generate awareness about women issues and raise voice for their greater equality.

She said that it is very important to strengthen women's role by enhancing the frequency of various sensitization programs at regular intervals.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest explained that with the improved access to education and employment, millions of women are joining the Army, Air force and even anti terror operations but still they are facing harassment at work as well as public places.

HOD, English, Dr. Seema Malpotra said that intimidation, bullying or coercion also comes under gender discrimination which is becoming common day by day and deliberated on choosing best practical strategies and right action plans to deal with any type of harassment.

As many as 100 students participated in this workshop.

Chief Guest in the Poster making competition was Prof. Anirudh Sharma, Incharge Principal GDC Kathua. He congratulated the students on the eve of Women's day and appreciated the working of CWS for organizing such awareness programs in the college from time to time.

30 students participated in a poster making competition. Theme of the poster making was Role of Women in society.

HOD EVS Dr. Deepshikha, Dr.Chetna Gupta and Prof. Surbhi Gupta were the judges of the event.

Dr. Romila Guleria, HOD Chemistry Prof Rakesh Singh were also present in the function.
