J&K Fencers Excel In Asian Championship

JAMMU: Young fencers from Jammu and Kashmir, Shreya Gupta and Ajay Kumar have excelled in the ongoing Junior Asian and Cadet Championships at Uzbekistan.

As per the reports reaching here, in the knockout stages of Junior Individual Epee event, Ajay kumar grabbed top 16th Ranking after he defeated Alfihani Ahmed of Saudi Arabia 15-07 and Altaweel Hussain of Saudi Arabia 15-14, a handout issued by the J&K Amateur Fencing Association informed.

Similarly, in women Junior Sabre individual event, international medalist, Shreya Gupta also reached knockout stages and earned top 16th Ranking. In knockout stage, she upset 3rd ranked, Jeong Yeonsu of Korea 15-14 and defeated Alkudmani Talene of KSA 15-10.

In the men Cadet Sabre individual event, Harshit Kohli played well and achieved top 32nd ranking. Another Sabre women fencer from J&K, Kritarthi Kotwal tried hard but couldn't qualify pools in the Junior category.

Meanwhile, Association president, M J Sharma extended greetings to fencers for bringing laurels to the Union Territory.
