PSPS GCW Gandhinagar celebrates International Women's Day

JAMMU: The Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu organised a ‘Moot Court Trial Activity' on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The moot court cases were held under the patronage of the college Principal, Prof Minu Mahajan.

Around 15 students participated in this activity and presented their moot court case, Vishakha and others vs the State of Rajasthan. Participants presented the proceedings to the case in an organised, well-researched and proper manner.

Chief Guest, advocate Dr Satinder Singh, encouraged the participants and college authorities to conduct more events that boost students' morale and confidence and make them more aware of their legal rights as citizens of India.

He admired this unique feature of a moot court room in the college premises and expressed his gratitude for being invited as the Chief Guest for the moot case proceedings.

The moot court activity ended with a vote of thanks by Prof Paramjeet Singh (Assistant Professor, Political Science). Students were made aware of various sections and articles in the Indian constitution related to law and order. The activity enriched the students' experience and they gained new perspective about how court trials take place and the importance of the Indian judiciary as well as the role of media in providing justice.

Faculty members from different departments, including Prof Yashpal Sharma (IQAC convener), Prof Arun Kumar Sharma (Chemistry department), Dr Renu Anand (HOD Maths), Dr Deepika Gupta (Incharge HOD Chemistry), Prof Mohinder Kumar (HOD Statistics), Dr Anuradha Gandotra (HOD Food Science), Prof Ajaz Ahmed (Education department), Prof Javed Iqbal (Urdu department) and Prof Sugandha Mahajan (Department of Botany) attended the event along with members of the organizing committee, Dr Harmeet Singh and Dr Vandana Sharma.
