Dept of Punjabi, JU organises one Day Seminar

JAMMU: A one-day National Seminar was organized at the Seminar Hall of Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu today by Guru Nanak Chair in Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu.
The Theme of the programme was ‘Guru Nanak Dev Ji Di Bani Di Samkali Parsangikta'.
Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas S. Ranjeet Singh Tohra, President DGPC, Jammu & Advisor to National Minority Commission was the Guest of Honour on this occasion.
Prof. Rajni Kant, the chief guest of the seminar appreciated the efforts made the Guru Nanak Chair in Department of Punjabi to organize such elaborate program to discuss the important issues conveyed by the teaching and principal of the Guru Nanak, a Great Philosopher, visionary and thinker. While speaking on the theme he narrated his personal life experiences of sharing and co-existences of human lives.
In his address S. Ranjeet Singh Tohra, President, DGPC, Jammu said that there is a need of Self-realisation to be associated with the path of spiritualism shown by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in his theological ideas. He further added that the complicacies in the life of Commoners in the present time be addressed by the revolutionary ideas of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Professor of English & Head, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu presided over the first session of the National Seminar.
A large number of intellectuals, writers, faculty members, research scholars, students and members of civil society attended the programme. The event has been a part of celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal.
The inaugural session started with the formal welcome address by Prof. Baljeet Kour, Head, Department of Punjabi & I/c Chair Professor, in her address she said that the Department is organizing regularly various literary interactive events between literary people, research scholars, students, faculty and the public in general. This time the National Seminar is dedicated to the contribution and relevance of Guru Nanak Dev's discourse to the modernity.
Prof. Sarabjeet Singh, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh was Key-note speaker in the Seminar. In his address, he delved deeply into the various conflict-ridden life of the contemporary world.
He elaborated on various aspects concerned with the Socio-Economic and Socio-political life under the pressure of various factors influencing contemporary life. Reflecting on his views, he explained in depth how the situation is quite similar to that of the times of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Ji was having a dialogue with the communities and stood against the wrong practices of the various religious and political institutions of his times and rejected each and every sort of discrimination in society.
In her presidential address, Prof. Satnam Kour emphasized on getting rid of the ego that dominates our life. She described some of the quotes from Bani that can help the common man to achieve relief by following the principles & teachings of the Bani of Guru Nanak dev Ji.
In the academic session (2nd) Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Singh Raina, President Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu and S. Harjit Singh Uppal, President Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R. S. Pura shared the presidium, whereas research papers on the theme of Seminar were presented by Dr. Tiratha Raj Bhoi, Dr. Harbajan Singh, Dr. Manjeet Singh, Dr. Harsimran Singh, Dr. Rajvir Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Kour, Prabhjot Kour, Chanpreet Kour, Amanpreet kour and others.
The experts on the praesidium expressed their views on the research paper presented during the academic session. They also congratulated the Chair Professor, faculty, Research Scholars and Students of the department to organise such an important program.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Harjinder Singh, Assistant Professor & Co-Coordinator of the event.
