Higher Education Council envisages Pathbreaking Initiatives under NEP 20
Gyaanoday Express: College on Wheels in the offing

JAMMU: In the meeting conducted today at the University of Jammu, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council (JKHEC) and former Vice-Chancellor, Delhi University, while recognizing the wisdom and spirit of ancient Mimansa philosophy which states that knowledge without action is meaningless, emphasized upon highly innovative under graduate programs.
He further stated that these programs shall enable true education.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a proposal of running a train christened "Gyaanoday Express: College on Wheels" for more than a 1000 students of Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi on a journey of 15 days that shall enhance innovative learning.
These students shall be selected on the basis of group based projects that shall be connected to various aspects of the journey ranging from the design of the coaches, toilets, and engines to ideas and problems connected with the land and places through which the journey shall pass.
These projects shall also deal with the culture, the economy, the history and entrepreneurship of the places of halt.
The journey shall take the students to various places of learning treating the world as a university.
The journey shall include visits to Delhi University, Sabarmati Aashram , Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Surat, the INS Vikrant at the naval dockyard of Mumbai, the entrepreneurial activities of Goa, ISRO and IISc Bengaluru and the Gandhi Ashram at Wardha.
The students shall submit detailed project reports at the end of the journey.
Other deliberations included a host of ideas dealing with development of best practices and high-end innovations under "Goonj" reflective reverberations of the Institutions of J&K, entrepreneurial programs, engineering kitchens, development of transdisciplinary four-year new degree program, pedagogy trainings, innovation projects, skill based programmes etc.
The house discussed the various themes and aspects of employing flexible nature of NEP 2020 in educational institutes of J&K. It was unanimously resolved to include practical and skill based outcome programmes. Prof.
Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu emphasized upon continuous evaluation and appreciation of the learning process of the student. It was also resolved to develop a detailed road map for a formal Higher Education Executive Council.
