Students of JU's Poonch Campus visited Sericulture Science University of Mysore and CSRTI Mysore

POONCH: As part of the ongoing Education tour of the students of department of Sericulture, Poonch Compus, today visited Department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University and Central Sericulture research and training institute CSRTI Mysore.
Prof. H. B. Manjunatha, Chairman, Department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University of Mysore welcomed the students and the faculty accompany them. He gave a detailed lecture on Proteomics and Genomics of silkworm.
Students also visited the laboratory where Prof. H. B. Manjunatha gave the demo on using molecular biology techniques.
Dr. Karnal Lecturer, Department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University of Mysore accompanied Prof. H. B. Manjunatha showed the techniques of making scaffolds of silk and demonstrated the use of scaffolds in the medical field.
Prof. B. Sannapa from the department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University of Mysore gave a detailed lecture on Soil Science and Mechanization used in mulberry cultivation.
The students were taken to Mulberry garden and substantiated Mechanization used in Mulberry cultivation.
Students also visited the lab of Prof. Sannapa and showed his Cytology and Genomics work of mulberry.
Dr. Likith Gowda, Post doc fellow, Proteomics a d Genomics Laboratory, Department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University of Mysore took the students to his lab and demonstrated the extraction of DNA, RNA and Proteins.
He was accompanied by his other lab mates Prashant and Aakash and showed the extraction and quantification of biomolecules of Mulberry and silkworm.
Dr. R. S. Umakanth presented a lecture on grainage activities. He took the students to incubation room and demonstrated the incubation of eggs there. Students were showed different cocoons of silkworm mutants to students.
At Central Sericulture research and training institute CSRTI Mysore, Dr. R Bhagya scientist-D and Head of SEEM division, gave a detailed information about the various divisions of CSRTI Mysore and she also enumerated the mandate of the institute.
She further added the in today's world adopted and absorption of technologies is the need of hour and we must focus on sericulturists/stakeholders and to argument their involvement.
Dr. Maheeba (Scientist-D) Division of pest management gave a detailed lecture on pests, parasitoids and their control measures.
Nagashri (Senior Technical Assistant) Chawki Rearing Centre gave demonstration on chawki rearing centers and also briefed their role in training the farmers.
Ramesh Gowde (Junior Engineer) Division of seri engineering and reeling briefed about mechanization in sericulture, he also demonstrated the working of various machines and also allowed our team to watch the documentary.
Sanath Kumar (Scientist D) division of Farm management discussed about various Farm implements, he told the differences between traditional and modern Farm implements.
Dr. Rajini (Scientist D) silkworm breeding and genetics, explained the way they are dealing with different breeds and how they are working with different breeds
Azad Gull, Senior Technical Assistant, Soil Science and Chemistry Division explained and demonstrated about the chemistry and analysis
of soil.
Later students were taken to Molecular Biology Division where Miss Sobagya demonstrated the uses of different instruments.
Students were also allowed to enter mass rearing room where Prof. Manjunatha demonstrated about silkworm rearing and emphasized the students to focus not only on studies but also on practical work.
All the teachers of Department of Studies in Sericulture Science, University of Mysore encouraged the students to enter in the field of
research and derived new innovations of Sericulture which will be helpful for future.
Students and faculty accompanying them thanked Prof. Dipankar Sengupta, Director, Poonch Campus for giving this opportunity to learn new techniques and Innovations in Sericulture.
Students and staff of Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus also thanked Prof. H. B. Manjunatha and director, CSRTI, Mysore, Dr. Mary Josepha, Scientists and their technical staff for their cooperation.
Students are accompanied by the faculty of the Department of Sericulture Poonch Campus Dr Muzafar Ahmad Bhat and Miss Sumya Kapoor
