Diwan Badri Nath Vidya Mandir is an old and famous school of Jammu. Perhaps it was one of the few schools built in the old city of Jammu in 1957, which is still famous for its structured and quality education system.

While school has produced hundreds of students who are contributing to the progress of Jammu and nation and on the other hand, the history of the founders who laid the strong foundation of this school is intriguing.

This school is a proof of a family's dedication and foresight towards education.

Today we will talk about Eminabad (Eminabad: a prosperous town ,which was merged with Pakistan after partition) and its famous Diwan family.

This family is still known for their exceptional work for the upliftment of town through various social work as well valuable contribution in the Jammu Darbar. Their prosperity was beyond any description, it ranges from huge havelis to sprawling Jagirs. This family has been explained in detail in "chiefs and families of note".

Many famous personalities were part of Diwan family, we will give you brief overview of same before highlighting the protagonist of We will start with Diwan Jwala Sahai who stayed with Maharaja Gulab Singh for thirty years and was appreciated for his work not only by the Maharaja but also by the British Government. Dewan Kripa Ram, the author of Gulabnama (a saga written on Gulab Singh Ji, the first king of the Dogra dynasty of Jammu) also comes from this family and was illustrious son of Diwan Jwala Sahai.

In this influential family Rai Saheb Dewan Amar Nath was born, who rose to the ranks in Jammu darbar and was appointed as the Governor of Jammu in 1893 and till 1905, he performed this work well, after which he was appointed as the Foreign Minister of Jammu and Kashmir State, this position he held till his death in 1917. His honesty and integrity was awarded with the title CIE-"companion of Indian empire" as well as bestowed with titles like Rai Saheb/Diwan Bahadur by the British Raj.

He had more than ten thousand acres of land in Gujranwala and substantial properties in Jammu.Apart from all this, he used to get 4 rupees out of every 1000 rupees from the revenue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite all this, his mind was engaged in education and its expansion. He believed that "educated society is the path to nation's progress".

He started a high school with hostel in Eminabad and along with that a dispensary was built for taking care of health of the people.

Not only this, for giving shape to his vision for quality education, he entrusted the work to his promising son - Dewan Badri Nath who was very intelligent. He completed his education from trinity college cambridge and after that done LLD (doctorate of law) from glasgow university and became the private secretary of Maharaja Pratap Singh and along with this he was also engaged in the expansion of education in his home town, which was the passion of family.

But the 1919 cholera epidemic was brutal and took his life but His as well as Dewan Amar Nath ji's vision for education continued remained in momentum.Due to the partition of India in 1947, this temple of education was shifted from Eminabad to Jammu.

Deewanani Vidyavati ji established Mrs. Dewanini V Badrinath Educational Trust in 1957, which is still setting high standards in the field of education.
