JU's Kathua Campus organizes Extension Outreach Programme

KATHUA: As a part of diverse extension outreach programmes Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized an activity on Gender Sensitization and Career Counselling at Village Kathera in order to facilitate women to make better career choices.

More than 50 students from MCA, MBA and UIET of Kathua Campus, University of Jammu participated in the said activity. The students initiated a door-to-door campaign in village Kathera followed by community participation where people from all over the Panchayat Kathera flocked together to attend the awareness programme.

The awareness programme was attended by more than 100 people from Panchayat Kathera who were thrilled by the performance of the students of Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in the form of a Nukkad Natak.

The Special Guests from Panchayat Kathera who attended the programme were Meenakshi Rajput (Sarpanch, Panchayat Kathera), Pritam Singh (Panch, Ward No. 4, Fafal), Bashir Ahmed (Panch, Ward No. 3, Fafal), Jog Raj (Panch, Ward No. 6, Kumri), Santosh Kumari (Panch, Ward No. 5, Kumri), Trishla Devi (Panch, Ward No. 2, Kathera) and Mohinder Singh (Panch, Sangan).

The esteemed speakers were Dr. Deep Novel (Tehsildar, Consolidation, Jammu), Pardeep Sharma (Assistant Agriculture Chemist, Pesticide Testing Laboratory, Krishi, Bhawan Jammu), Surbhi Sharma (Lecturer, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Marheen, Kathua), Dr. Preeti Rajput (Statistical Assistant, Govt. Medical College, Kathua) and Ganesh Dutt (Retd. Zonal Education Officer, Kathua).

During the activity, emphasis was laid on the ways to augment role of women in particular and men in general along with the potential of agricultural products to be considered for forthcoming GI Tags, Self Help Groups (SHGs) for women for progressive development in the region and the need to initiate with the diminutive efforts by the women of all ages in the region so that the region can usher in the era of development.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in her message declared the adoption of village Kathera by Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, to mark which, at least one awareness/social activity per month shall be organized for the welfare of the people of this village at the grassroot level.

She further highlighted the initiative of outreach activities by the campus with effect from December 1st when maiden outreach activity on Cleanliness Drive Trek at Sundri Kot was organised. She reiterated that Kathua Campus shall contribute tirelessly for societal development in future too to promote best practices and scientific acumen among the masses by means of door-to-door campaigns and community participation.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Head, Computer Science and Convener, Sports Committee, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu welcomed the special guests and esteemed speakers and coordinated the whole activity. He apprised the participants regarding the relevance of such awareness programmes for the welfare of the society.

Ritika Goyal delivered a vote of thanks. Dr. Sunny Sharma, Dr. Zaheen Ansari and other faculty members of Kathua Campus were also present during the programme.
