PSPS Government PG College organises awareness event to celebrate Constitution Day

JAMMU: The Department of Political Science, Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, in collaboration with IQAC celebrated ‘Constitution Day' to commemorate the 73nd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India with great fervor and gaiety.

The event was held under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and under the patronage of the College Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan. She applauded the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India for celebrating Constitution Day, an innovative thought to make all the citizens of India aware of their rights and duties.

The Committee members of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav comprising Prof. Sujata Slathia, HOD Economics, Prof. Mala Bhasin, HOD Botany, and Dr.Roopali Slathia, Physical Director, and IQAC convenor Dr. YashPaul and all the faculty members also graced the occasion.

Event coordinator Dr. Harmeet Singh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Political Science, presented the welcome address and delivered a speech on the brief history of the framing of Indian Constitution and read the Preamble of the Constitution.

The staff members and students joined him for a pledge ceremony.

He mentioned that Constitution Day, also known as 'Samvidhan Divas,' is celebrated in our country on 26th November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.

Dr. Harmeet Singh also applauded the freedom fighters and the members of constituent assembly for their contribution in making this day possible for us.

Several students and volunteers from the Department of Political Science d presented speeches on the formation of the Indian Constitution. Aishpreet Kour of 3rd semester anchored the event. She also highlighted the role played by the members of the Indian constituent Assembly in the framing of Indian Constitution.

Around 12 students from the 1st sem Political Science participated in the event, namely Kanika, Madhvi Sharma, Shivya Gandhotra, Ambika Kesar, Anamika Abrol, Shriya Sharma, Sanjeevani, Khushi, Jiya, Priti Bhau, Sonali Sharma and Saniya. All the students highlighted the key features of the Constitution and its spirit, which have enabled us to enjoy the benefits of a free society, free speech, and freedom to practice religions.

The Members of the organizing Committee Prof.Paramjeet Singh, Dr. Harmeet Singh, Dr. Vandana Sharma and staff members were also present.

The program was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Joyleen Kour of 5th sem.
