International Seminar on Environment, Energy, and Health concludes at JU

JAMMU: A two days international seminar on ‘Environment, Energy, and Health: Emerging Challenges and Policies' organized by the Department of Economics in collaboration Indian Social Science Academy concludes today at University of Jammu.

In the valedictory function, Dr. Supran Kumar Sharma, the Dean Faculty of Management was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences was the Guest of Honour.

The Key Note speech was delivered by Prof. Kuldip Kaur, Ambedkar Chairperson and Professor at Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The seminar coordinator Prof. Falendra K. Sudan presented a brief report of the seminar, while Dr. Virender Koundal presented the welcome remarks and Prof. Sunita Sharma, presented the vote of thanks.

In her key note speech, Prof. Kuldip Kaur emphasized on the linkages between economic growth and energy demand mismatch, which leads to energy poverty and environmental and health consequences.

Therefore, sustaining environmental and energy resources are prime for achieving sustainable development goals, for which there is need to switch to renewable and green energy resources such as solar and wind due to their less carbon emitting and cost efficiency and greater access to poor masses.

Prof. Jasbir Singh advocated for collaborative research on vital social and economic relevant topics among the regional universities for policy development. Prof. Supran Kumar Sharma argued for a holistic approach towards environmental governance through sustainable manufacturing, green supply chains, recycling and solid waste management.

On the second day of the seminar, more than 40 research papers were presented on various themes and the main speakers include Dr. Dalip Kumar, Dr. Pabitra Kumar Jena, Dr. Aradhna Yadav, Dr. K. K. Bagchi, Dr. Archita Nayak, Dr. Kanti Paul, Dr. Arti Gaur, Kamal Preet Kaur, Anahat Sandhu, Pearl Sharma, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Maninder Kaur,  Shiksha Swami, and Dr. Kanchan Datta and many others.
