GDC Surankote conducts tourist activities camp

POONCH: YUVA Tourism Club, Government Degree College Surankote today organised a mega event for awareness and Photography Competition, Identification of Home Stay at Tourist Village (Behramgala) and cleanliness drive at tourist destination - Noorichamb in collaboration with Poonch Development Authority, Poonch (Tourism Sector).

Behram Gala, one of the tourist villages among the tourist villages of district Poonch. Because of its historical significance and one of the famous tourist destinations "Noori Chamb" associated with the name of Mughal Queen Noor Jahan is a great attraction for the Tourists with its scenic beauty and waterfall.

It is situated near Behram Galla in Surankote Tehsil along the Mughal road , about 20 KM from Surankote town and 45 KM from Poonch town and 80 KM from Shopian.

The fall of the stream gives rise to dense clouds of water vapours which engulfs the area & spreads all over. The Emperor Jahangir had developed so much fancy & liking for this fall that he named it Noori Chamb after the name of his beloved queen Noor Jahan. The Mughal queen used to stay here for relaxation. She had fixed a mirror beside the fall on the mountain wall where she used to have her make- up after the bath.

At present this tourist destination has become a famous point of attraction due to the opening of Mughal road and very rich natural and cultural resources like lush green forests, beautiful landscape, gushing water streams, very attractive meadows and most popular shrines and temples and tourist huts etc.

Prof. Khadam Hussain Principal of GDC Surankote, has established a Tourism Club for the students of college to explore the avenues of tourism while studying in their local areas.

The tour was flagged off at 11 am from GDC Surankote by the Principal along with Chief Executive office PDA_ Dr Mohammed Tanwir and other staff members of college.

Dr Mohammed Ashfaq, Head department of Geography, Nodal officer of the Tourism Club and Dr. Mohammed Tanwir (JKAS), Chief Executive Officer of PDA- Tourism take pains to make this event a grand success.

During the event the activities were performed like open Photography competition among the students of degree college Surankote and the result of this activity will be announced in college on 27th of October 2022.

Dr. Mohammed Tanwir and Dr. Mohammed Ashfaq, interact with the students as well as local participants and raise awareness about the importance of tourism and homestay accommodation schemes for the overall development of a region.

At the end of the event students also performed a cleanliness drive at and around Tourist Destination Noorichamb and in tourist Park at Chandi Marh. More than 35 students and 25 local residents take part in this event.

Public reprehensives were also present and grace the occasion other staff members were part of this event were Fareed Ahmed, Dr. Alamdar cultural officer Rajouri poonch were also present.
