Cleanliness drive held at GDC Khansahib

BUDGAM: As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, the NSS Unit of GDC Khansahib in collaboration with the Department of Sociology today conducted a campus wide cleanliness drive.

The sanitation work started with a special address given by Principal of the College, Dr. Nargis Bano, wherein, she laid emphasis on keeping our surroundings neat and clean. She extolled Gandhi as an environmentalist who laid emphasis on ‘simple living and high thinking'.

Prof. Zafar Shadad Khan, Head Department of Botany highlighted the basics of ‘Swachhata Abhiyan.' Thereafter, Dr. Sajad Padder - NSS Programme Officer and Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani - HOD Sociology also laid emphasis on the imperatives of observing and celebrating different initiatives undertaken for a clean and sustainable environment.

Around 30 kgs of waste was collected and disposed-off in an eco-friendly manner utilizing around 120 hrs of work.

Later, NSS volunteers also visited and adopted the village of Kaitch Khansahib, and participated in a cleanliness drive.

Villagers including Manzoor Ahmad Indrabi and Abdul Rashid Indrabi expressed satisfaction with the initiative and appreciated the role of NSS unit of GDC Khansahib for sensitizing the villagers about Swachhta.
