GDC Bhadarwah hosts week-long activities to mark World Ozone Day-2022

BHADERWAH: To mark International day for the preservation of Ozone Layer, the Department of Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with Eco-Club and IQAC of Government Degree College Bhaderwah, organized a myriad of weeklong activities including Wall Painting Competition, Essay Writing Competition, Quiz Competition and lectures on the theme _"Montreal Protocol @ 35: Global Cooperation to protect life on Earth" with an aim to highlight the importance of safeguarding the Earth's protective ozone layer and the need for collective action, guided by Science to solve major global challenges.

The Programme was conducted under the patronage of the College Principal, Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, and under overall supervision of Prof. Anuradha Sharma, Head Department of Environmental Sciences.

Dr. Sandeep Kotwal (Assistant Professor in Botany) and Dr. Javid Manzoor (Lecturer in Environmental Sciences) played a pivotal role in the overall conduct of this programme.

Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar, Prof. Jaideep Kumar, Prof. Ajaz Ahmed Naik and Prof. Pervaiz Ahmed Parrey were the jury members for the events for the weeklong programme.

Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar (Convener, IQAC), while speaking on the occasion, congratulated the organising team for hosting such an innovative and enriching plethora of weeklong activities and also motivated the students to take part with great zeal and zest in such activities.

Prof. Prithvi Raj and Prof. Shahbaz Ahmed also extended their support in organising and coordinating the programme.

The programme began with a wall painting competition on the theme "Climate Change and Ozone Layer Depletion" in which seven students participated and exhibited their talent by drawing and showcasing thematic paintings over the walls.

Among the contestants, Nitten Charak of Sem VI stood first in the Wall Painting Competition.

A total of 8 students participated in the Essay Writing Competition on the topic "Ozone Layer; its depletion and Recovery" which was also a fruitful activity wherein students expressed their views on the topic.

Niaz Ahmed Ganiae of Sem Ist secured first position in the Essay Writing Competition. A quiz Competition was also organised in which four teams (Team A, B, C, D) were constituted and each team consisted of four students. Team B comprising Sahil Charak, Ayaz Rathore, Shubhom Singh, Harish Kumar was declared as the winning team of the Quiz Competition.

At the conclusion of the week-long event, a lecture was delivered by Prof. Qasim Mir (Assistant professor in Geography) pertaining to the topic with an intention to impart current knowledge about the causes of the ozone layer, its depletion and recovery.

Finally, the Trophies and Medals were distributed amongst winners as a token of encouragement. In the end, a formal vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Anuradha Sharma and Dr. Javid Manzoor.
