Reopening of cinema halls beginning of normalcy in Kashmir: Dr. Karan Singh

JAMMU: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Dr Karan Singh has described as "beginning of normalcy" the opening of cinema halls in Kashmir and said he has seen Dal lake so much clean for first time in his life.

He stated this in an interview with a national news channel.

"The reopening of cinema halls show normalcy is beginning to come," Dr Karan Singh said but at the same time added that a lot is still needed to be done.

Few days back, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had inaugurated Multiplex Cinema Hall in Srinagar after three decades. More cinema halls are proposed to be opened in Jammu and Kashmir including the Valley.

Dr Karan Singh said historic Dal lake in Srinagar has been cleaned.

"I have never seen such a clean Dal lake in my life," he added.

On declaration of holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, Dr Karan Singh described the decision as "tremendously significant".

"Hari Singh never got his due. He undertook a series of reforms. He opened temples for all, built schools and colleges. It is belated recognition of his services," he said.

He added that declaration of holiday on the birthday of Hari Singh is significant for entire Jammu and Kashmir particularly Dogras.

He mentioned in details the reforms undertaken by Maharaja Hari Singh during his tenure.

Dr Karan Singh lauded all those who participated in agitation for declaration of holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh especially the Yuva Rajput Sabha, which was in forefront of the agitation.

Replying to a question of Bharat Jodo Yatra by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Dr Karan Singh remarked: "Congress is still largest opposition party. The idea of Bharat Jodo Yatra is good".

However, he said he is not active in the Congress and can't say about Congress hopes in 2024 Parliamentary elections.
