Department of Statistics, JU celebrates World Environmental Week

JAMMU: The department of Statistics, University of Jammu organized a lecture on 'Himalayan Ecosystem, Science and Knowledge' to mark Only One Earth during the World Environment week program envisaged by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
Om Parkash Vidyarthi, IFS (Retd), Former PCCF, Dept. of Forest, J&K in his remarkable lecture apprised the students of the rich cultural heritage of our country and its symbiotic linkage with nature.
He emphasized that human beings through uncontrolled environmental damaging activities have degraded the climatic conditions on earth.
He stressed that efforts need to begin from the individual level by reducing our carbon footprint.
The interaction was not limited to four walls to the seminar hall but was extended to the nature's nursery.
OP Vidyarthi made students aware of the floral diversity of the campus in his Tree Talk series.
The students learnt about the traditional plants and trees around their habitats'.
Parmil Kumar, Head of the department thanked O P Vidyarthi for his thought-provoking and inspirational sharing with students. He sensitized the students about the use of non-degradable plastic and shun the use of single-use plastic.
The students, scholars and faculty members of the department attended the celebration of the event.
