GCOE celebrates 'World Ozone Day'

JAMMU: In celebration of World Ozone Day, the NSS unit of Government College of Education organized an online Slogan Writing Competition, plant a sapling, pledge in collaboration with Nature Club, GCOE.
The event was planned to spread awareness among people about the depletion of the Ozone Layer and search for possible solutions to preserve it. The theme for the said program was ‘Montreal Protocol- Keeping us, our Food, and Vaccines Cool'.
Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of GCOE, applauded the efforts of the NSS Volunteers and appreciated the students who participated in the competition. She also praised corporates for doing their but in restoring ozone levels in the atmosphere. Later She explained the benefits of the Ozone Layer and suggested various ways to preserve it.
The program was adroitly conducted by Dr. Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Nodal Officer along with Dr. Shalini Sharma, HOD environmental Sciences, Convener of Nature Club. They said that the theme was selected for this event to highlight the long-term results of the 35 year old protocol, the first ever to be ratified by all the 197 members of the United Nations.
The program was enthusiastically attended by all the participants and the volunteers who conducted this program efficiently.
Prof. Seema Kumari, Prof. Sarita Dogra, and Prof. Shapia Shameem Bhatti gave their worthy presence by saying that this type of events are important for creating awareness towards the environment we share.
The best three nominations of this Competition will be considered by the organizers and the panel of Experts will evaluate and declare the winners on the official website by 18th September.
