GDC Basohli organized National Seminar on Nutrition and Healthy Food for Adolescent Girls

KATHUA: To celebrate the "4th Rashtriya Poshan Maah", NSS unit of the Government Degree College, Basohli organized a National Seminar on "Healthy Food for Adolescent Girls" under the aegis of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The event was organized under the patronage of Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, Principal, GDC, Basohli and convened by Dr. Shiv Kumar, NSS Programme Officer. The guest speaker of the day was Dt. Himani Agrawal, Doctorate fellow, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
In the welcome address, Dr. Kumar briefed the importance and history of the National Nutrition Week and introduced the event. The inaugural address was presented by college Principal, Dr. Kotwal, in which she highlighted the role of nutrition in the overall development of human body in the adolescent period and also urged the students to follow healthy dietary regimens.
On the occasion, Prof. Sanjeev Gupta, HoD Botany, also spoke on the female health care measures and briefed the role of various factors responsible for the maintenance of good health during adolescent time.
Afterward, Dt. Himani Agrawal delivered a lecture on the occasion, in which she talked about various micro and macro nutrients and their overall requirements during the adolescent period in young girls. She also spoke about the ill impacts of varied fast foods available in the market and diets deficient in major nutrients. She urged the students to take a balanced diet enriched with carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibers to maintain good health & mental well-being. She also addressed the queries of the students and instructed them accordingly.
In her concluding remarks, Dr. Nidhi Kotwal. appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee for organizing such an informative seminar and also applauded the contribution of the students.
Among others, Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Dr. R. K Manhas, Dr. Papinder Kumar, Prof. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Kehar Singh, Prof. Suresh Kumar, Dr. Shiv Mangal Singh, Mr. Sandeep Kumar and Sandeep Sharma, Dr. Brham Dutt and Dr. Jeevan Kumar were present in the lecture. The program culminated with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Shiv Kumar.
