University of Jammu celebrates 75th Independence Day

JAMMU: The 75th Independence Day of India, was celebrated at the University of Jammu with patriotic fervour and zeal. 

Keeping Social Distancing intact and observing SOPs related to the Covid-19 pandemic, a gathering of teaching faculty, officers, staff of the University of Jammu participated in the function.

Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu hoisted the National Flag at the Fountain Plaza. Prof. Dhar, while greeting the University fraternity, spoke about the spirit of nationalism, integrity, peace and brotherhood. 

He also expressed his gratitude towards the corona warriors of the Country in general and of the University in particular who are resiliently fighting against the pandemic and are resolute to get the Nation out of its clutches.

Giving insight into the landmark achievements of the country since independence, he invoked the zestful participation of youth as the torchbearers of the rich legacy. He also highlighted the University's initiatives in keeping the spirit of Nationalism intact. 

The Vice-Chancellor elaborated on the resolve of the University to provide a platform to the youth for their empowerment.

To produce confident, creative, self-motivated learners and thinkers, University has set up Incubation and Innovation Centres, Entrepreneurship and Industry academia partnerships.

He further urged the youth to come forward and take the advantage of these facilities and work towards the development of the Nation. He also informed that as a tribute to the glorious achievements of India in the Tokyo Olympics, the University has decided to name its gymnasium hall as ‘P.V. Sindhu Gymnasium Hall'.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Prakash Antahal informed about the initiatives taken by the University in connection with the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He also informed that the University is in the process to install a Wall of Heroes and Army tank to infuse a sense of nationalism and pride amongst youth.

Prominent amongst those who attended the Flag Hoisting Ceremony included Prof. Rajni Kant, (Director CDC), Prof. Arvind Jasrotia (Registrar), Prof. Jasbir Singh (Controller of Examinations), Deans, Rectors, Directors, members of Campus Cultural Committee, representatives of the elected bodies of the University and employees along with their families.

On the occasion, Mass Singing of the National Anthem was organized and the Guard of Honour was presented to the Vice-Chancellor by the University Security Contingent. 

The wards of university employees also presented cultural items, those who performed included Riya Jandyal, Kavya Jandyal, Navya Raina, Vansh Sharma, Varchasv Sharma, Nandani, Keshav, Bhavya Majotra, and Manmeet Kaur and students from Institute for Music and Fine Arts included, Ankur Kapoor, Ajay Kumar, Aarohan Kumar, Saurab Kundal, Updesh Kumar, Anil Kumar, Sunny Kumar led by Suraj Singh, Rakesh Sharma and Bahadur Singh.

Prof. Vishav Raksha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee presented the vote of thanks. The whole event was organized under the stewardship of Prof. Prakash Antahal, and Prof. Vishav Raksha.

The event was monitored by Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, Dr. B.K. Bajaj, Associate Dean SW, Dr. Garima Gupta and Dr. Pritam Singh, Assistant Deans SW, Capt. S.R. Dubey, Chief Security Officer, Mansi Mantoo, Media Officer, Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor and R.S. Bandral, Sr. P.A. to DSW. The management was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur, Balwant Singh and Arif Paul.
