Home Science Department, JU celebrates Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav

JAMMU: Department of Home Science organized Poster making competition to celebrate Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav on the themes 'Women in Nationalist movement' and ‘Prominent Home Scientists in Post-Independence India'.

Students of the IInd and IVth semesters of the department participated in the event with great zeal and showcased their ideas, talent, and creativity.

Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, JU was the chief guest for the function.

In her speech, she highlighted that many women have participated in the freedom struggle and Home Science professionals have also played a very important role in the freedom struggle not on the forefront but behind the scenes.

She also said that this completion must have stimulated the thought process of students and they should always keep the spirit alive in themselves while celebrating the Independence day.

Earlier, Prof. Samridhi Arora (HOD) in her welcome address highlighted that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. The citizens of India should cherish its Independence, as it was obtained after years of struggle. Women especially played a significant and vibrant role in the Independence struggle.

Young females can emulate the lives of women freedom fighters.

Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof Shashi Manhas, Dr. Sarika Manhas from Department of Home Science graced the occasion and appreciated the students for their efforts and also motivated them to take part in such activities in future also.

The posters were adjudged by Prof AnupamaVohra, Convener, Publication Cell, JU and Prof Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women's Studies, JU.

Abhisha Vaid got first prize, Mohini Devi and Meghna Sharma were adjudged IInd and IIIrd respectively and Zeba Yasmeen got a consolation prize in Poster making competition.

The event was organized under the able guidance of all the faculty members of the Department.
