GDC Basohli organises plantation drive

KATHUA: Under the aegis of "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav & Swachhta Pakhwada, the NSS and NCC wings of GDC Basohli in collaboration with Forest Department, Basohli organised a mega plantation drive in the college campus.

The drive was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, Principal GDC, Basohli. Dr. Papinder Kumar, ANO, NCC wing and Dr. Shiv Kumar, NSS, Programme officer.

On the occasion while addressing, Dr. N. Kotwal said that the trees are the life lines and we need to plant more and more trees in the surrounding. She explained that the act of deforestation is causing a massive damage to the environment resulting in increased global warming, floods along with other natural calamities and plantation is only the way out to curb this issue. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of every citizen to plant trees and take care of them, she advised.

Dr. Papinder and Dr. Shiv Kumar also motivated the students and encouraged them to take ample steps to protect our environment by planting trees.

Approximately, 100 plants of medicinal/herbal/shady/ornamental type were planted in the college campus.

Among others, Prof. Sanjeev Gupta, Dr. R. K. Manhas, Prof. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Kehar Singh, Prof. Suresh Barwal, Sandeep Kumar, Sandeep Sharma. Prof. Bhram Dutt and Dr. Jeevan Kumar were also present and planted trees too.

The program was organized with all precautionary measures, maintaining social distance and wearing mask in view of COVID-19.
