International Women's Day celebrated at GDC Sidhra

JAMMU: On the Commemoration of celebration of International Women's Day 2021, the Internal Complaint Committee of GDC Sidhra organized an online lecture on the theme "Gender Justice: Safety At Public Space for women" under the guidance of Principal Dr. Monika Sharma.
The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Savita Nayar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Jammu. The lecture was initiated with the welcome address by Prof. Deepa Kak, Assistant Professor in Education.
Lecture was well delivered by the resource person where she highlighted the various facets of the safety of women at public places. She discussed that sexual harassment at any public space or workplace is considered a violation of women's right to equality, life and liberty. It discourages women's participation not only in the very basic essentials like education, work but also impedes their access to leadership opportunities.
She vehemently stressed upon the civil and legal remedies related to sexual Harassment of Women at workplace in the context of Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act 2013. She highlighted that Protection against harassment at work place is the mandate of the Law. No women should be subjected to harassment at work place. She further threw light on the composition of Internal Complaint Committee and the complaint mechanism at Government and Public organizations. The lecture was marked with an interactive discussion with the participants towards its conclusion.
The programme was organized by Dr. Harpreet kaur, Convener, Internal Complaint Committee of the College. Prof. Harpreet Kour presented a formal vote of thanks at the end of the session.
