UGC HRDC refresher course in Human Rights inaugurated at Jammu University

JAMMU: Inaugural function of the 2 weeks interdisciplinary Refresher course in Human rights for College and University teachers were held today at University of Jammu.
The Chief Guest of the function Garib Dass, IGP (Headquarters) J&K police outlined the various contours on the subject of human rights. He also dwelt on the various international and national initiatives taken for the protection of human rights. While sharing his experiences he narrated many anecdotes from his active service where police have to protect people while safeguarding their human rights as well. He stressed that society as a whole should make a concerted effort for the promotion and protection of human rights.
In the future, technology will play an important role in the implementation of human rights. Individual awareness of the citizens can only be ensured through awareness programs like the one being organized by Jammu University.
Earlier in her welcome address, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Deptt of Home Science, JU (Coordinator of the course) gave the objectives and details of the programme to the participants. She mentioned that the sessions will be aimed at developing an understanding of Human rights and their application in the field. Additionally, human rights in the Covid times will also be deliberated upon.
Through the course, the participants will get an opportunity to interact and benefit from the varied experiences and views of eminent resource persons from reputed academic institutions, various government, and non-government organizations working in the field of human rights, law enforcement agencies, and senior legal practitioners from the Supreme court of India and High court of Jammu.
Earlier, Prof. Rahul Gupta, Director, HRDC, University of Jammu while welcoming the participants deliberated on the specifications related to the refresher course and shared that this is the 105th course being organized by the HRDC Centre. He also apprised the participants about the need of attending all the sessions, as this is a prerequisite for the course. The course is an excellent medium for updating knowledge on a topic of universal relevance.
Dr. Sarika Manhas, Associate Professor, Deptt of Home Science, JU (Co-coordinator of the Course) while interacting with the participants underlined the importance of regular updating of academic knowledge by teachers. She also introduced the Chief Guest to the audience.
Prominent among others who graced the occasion were Prof. Rajni Dhingra (DRS, JU), Prof Neeru Sharma and Prof. Shashi Manhas.
Dr. Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching Faculty, UGC HRDC, JU presented a formal vote of thanks. The program was conducted by Vinish Malik, Research Scholar of the Department of Home Science.
The Refresher course is being attended by 30 college and University teachers from the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Leh-Kargil, and Jammu and Kashmir.
