LG Ladakh for preservation of culture, heritage of Ladakh

KARGIL: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur said that traditional festivals like Mamani help in promoting the age old ethos of communal harmony and brotherhood and are an ideal occasion to showcase and preserve the culture, heritage, civilization, and traditions of Ladakh.
The LG stated this while addressing people during a grand function of traditional ethnic food festival Mamani which was organized by the Department of Tourism UT Ladakh in collaboration with the LAHDC, Kargil and District Administration, Kargil at Government Higher Secondary School Shargole.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, Executive Councilor (EC) for Works Mubarak Shah Nagvi, Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Deputy Commissioner/ CEO,LAHDC Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, Commander 121 Infantry Division Brigadier Vivek Bakshi , Director Tourism Kunzes Angmo, Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry Dr Muhammad Raza Abbassi, officers of Civil and Police administration, local Panchayat representatives and a large number of people from the Shargole area were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, LG Mathur said that UT Administration Ladakh and LAHDC Kargil will work together to celebrate the Mamani festival in a bigger way in future and target to take this festival a national event to boost up the tourism sector and economy of Kargil district.
He asked people to change their perspective of working for six months in a year to speed up development of Ladakh. He said that to promote culture, economic prosperity, education, and better health facility, it is important for us to make working culture possible round the year. He quoted examples of places like Canada, Iceland, Russia, etc where the temperature remains adverse but facilities like education, health, and other related sectors remain unaffected round the year.
LG Ladakh added that Kargil is developing at a very fast pace in every sector and UT Administration is committed to extend every possible support for further progress of the district.
Addressing the gathering, CEC Feroz Ahmed Khan that the Mamani festival plays an important role to connect people with their heritage and ancestral values and LAHDC Kargil aims to connect Mamani festival with Tourism sector to make this festival a tourist attraction to promote winter tourism in the district.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary gave a welcome speech and highlighted the importance of the Mamani Festival.
Director Tourism UT Ladakh Kunzes Angmo gave the vote of thanks at the end of the program.
During the festival, Balti ghazal, Ladakhi folk dances and Shina song and dance were presented by artists from various parts of the district.
