3rd webinar on Gender Sensitisation organised by Centre for Women’s Studies JU

JAMMU: The Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu in continuation with web lecture series that began in the month of November 2020 on the theme ‘Gender Sensitization and Gender Awareness' organised the Third Webinar today on 26th November 2020 on 'Gender Sensitization' in collaboration with Government College for Women Udhampur which was delivered by Dr Nirmala Jadhav, Director, Tarabai Shinde Women's Studies Centre, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
Dr Jadhav spoke about the concept of gender and gender construction and averred that how gender and patriarchy operate within different institutions and gender identity is built.
She further gave in depth detail about how difference of sexes changes into discrimination of sexes and how through use of different agencies people are fit into the frames of masculinity and femininity fixed by the society.
Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women's Studies gave the opening remarks and dwelt upon the need for gender sensitization and also deliberated on the challenges faced by women in the society. She suggested ways to overcome these challenges by bringing change in the mindset as well as by understanding the needs of every individual irrespective of the gender.
Dr. Sumita Rao NSS, Programme Officer, GCW Udhampur coordinated the programme and applauded the efforts of the Centre for providing opportunity and conducting such webinars on very relevant topics.
The Webinar was attended by more than one hundred participants comprising teachers, students, scholars of GCW, Udhampur as well as from the different departments of the University.
The participants very actively took part in the discussion which was followed by the Lecture.
Many observations and queries were raised which were answered by the resource person to their satisfaction.
