Centre for Women's Studies, JU organises Webinar on Gender Sensitisation

JAMMU: The Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu started with a webinar cum workshop series for the month of November 2020 on the theme ‘Gender Sensitization and Gender Awareness' to train various stakeholders on the issue of gender and create awareness on various related concepts.
The first webinar was on the theme ‘Gender in School Education and Gender concerns in NEP 2020"which was organized in collaboration with Directorate of School Education for the school teachers and was delivered by Prof. Vibhuti Patel, Former Professor, Advanced Centre for Women's Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences(TISS), Mumbai.
The Second webinar cum workshop was organized today on 11th November 2020 on ‘Gender Sensitization' in collaboration with Women Development Cell of Government Degree College, R S Pura.
The Resource person was Dr. Swati Dyahadroy,Faculty, KSP Women's Studies Centre,SP Pune University, wherein she spoke about the concept of gender and averred that how the concept of gender is constructed through dynamics of relations and structures. She further gave in depth details about how inequalities are located in everyday life through gendered divisions of labour and gendered roles.
Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director Centre for Women's Studies in her opening remarks emphasised on how gender is an important variable and one needs to understand how it operates through various agencies in the society. She explained the importance of Gender equality and how empowerment is an important tool to receive the same.
Dr.Rajni Bala, Asstt Prof.GDC R.S Pura and Incharge women Development Cell of the college appreciated the Centre for providing opportunity for collaborating and also applauded the efforts of the Centre for conducting such activities.
The Webinar was attended by a large number of participants consisting of teachers, students, scholars of GDC R.S Pura as well as from the different departments of the University. The participants very actively took part in the discussion which followed in the end.
