Dr Sanjogita Soodan nominated to executive council of National Sports University, Manipur

JAMMU: Bringing laurels to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, eminent sport medicine specialist Dr Sanjogita Soodan has been nominated as member of the executive council of National Sports University, Manipur, country's first and only Central University focussing on sports education in India.

The nomination has been done by Union Ministry of Youth Services and Sports who constituted the NSU's first executive council for a period of three years.

Dr Sanjogita, presntly posted in Government Medical College, Jammu, also happens to be the chairperson of the Indian Boxing Council. Having done her PG from National Institute of Sports, Patiala,in 2003-05 and thereafter the International Sports Conditioning Course at Semelwseiss University at Budapest in Hungary, she has to her feat a long list of participation in Asian and world level sports events since 2007 including the 2012 Olympics which she attended as a doctor in the Indian contingent team, apart from Asian games in Guangzhou, Vitetnam and macau from 2007-2010.

Associated with almost all the top national level athletes in the country, she was also an international technical official (medical) of the Indian Boxing Association at varous IBA world championships.

Headed by University Vice Chancellor as its ex-officio chairperson, the Council also has members in Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Joint Secretary Department of Sports, Dean Academic Affairs, Manipur Government's Secretary Sports and Director Institute of Medical Sciences.

Other prominent persons nominated to the council by the ministry are Biswajit Basumatary, an eminent Polo coach, Dr S S Bombayala Devi, an Arjuna awardee and Padamshree who has been representing India in Archery at the international events since 2007 and has won various gold, silver and broze medals, besides Abha Dhillon, an Olympian shooter.
