JU organises Musical Evening to celebrate Independence Day

JAMMU: As part of Independence Day celebrations, University of Jammu organized virtual Musical Evening - 'Aap Ki Pasand, Aap Ki Farmaish' through Google Meet featuring famous Duggar Singers Roohi & Juhi.

Organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, the programme evoked immense response from online viewers which acclaimed every presentation by posting their comments and observations. The audiences' reactions were punctuated by demands of the viewers for their favourite songs, sung by the duo sibling. They were positively responded by Roohi and Juhi who sang the songs in their traditional style. The event was featured on different social media platforms for larger audience.

Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu was the Chief Guest at the occasion who appreciated the talent of Roohi and Juhi and lauded their contribution for promoting Dogra folk songs at wider canvass. He said their efforts will go a long way in inspiring budding talent.

He complimented Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Jasbir Singh and his team for successfully organising events of different genres during the prevailing crucial time in the wake of Covid-19.

The programme was soulfully anchored by Dr. Garima Gupta, Assistant Dean SW.

Introducing the singing duo, Prof Jasbir Singh informed that Roohi and Juhi who are proud children of renowned singer Suraj Singh are doing a wonderful task of popularising their culture amongst youth. This is also a matter of pride that their father Suraj Singh is an employee of the University and Juhi, a promising alumni of this institution of excellence. She has been part of 'Display Your Talent' organised by the Department of Students Welfare in the past.

This is pertinent to mention here that to keep students, scholars and all the stakeholders of University engaged in productive and creative activities, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu has come up with series of events, competitions, webinars etc. which has created an environment of positivity during the grim Corona times.


The whole series of events is being organized under the stewardship of Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare and Prof. Anupama Vohra, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee and being supervised by Prof. Samridhi Arora, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, Dr. B.K. Bajaj, Associate Dean SW, Dr. Garima Gupta and Dr. Pritam Singh, Assistant Deans SW, Ms Mansi Mantoo, Media Officer, Ms. Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer, Mr. Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor and Members of Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu.
