14th J&K Science Congress Commences at JU
Congress will encompass the societal problem on Social, Environmental and Science-Prof Dhar

JAMMU: Emphasizing strong and close collaboration in terms of sharing their resources in terms of technologies and human resources between various universities and research institutions, exhorted Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir.
He said the Science congress is a great platform for our researchers and scientists to hold deliberations and said that the measures and findings of the congress will provide solution to various problems which are common all over the world.
Prof Talat called upon the scientists and researchers to focus on the usage of Bio resources available in J&K and Ladakh UT's. He also highlighted about the importance of Geo resources, in which Himalayan glaciers should be carefully preserved for longer periods.
Also, he mentioned the importance of Artificial Intelligence, disaster management and energy resources of Himalayas which help to reach education and medical education to the remote areas of society.
He also encourages the sciences and social sciences should come together for effective application of scientific knowledge and technological innovations to address the challenges being faced by the State and the country.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential address said that University is holding this science congress for the 7th time and there will be special session on Vice Chancellors session, four Vice Chancellors have agreed to talk about their own research which motivates the other faculty members. He said the congress will encompass the societal problem on Social, Environmental and Science.
He gave an example of water, to ensure the water security and the society to understand the importance of water for sustainable collaboration. He contemplated that the UN 17 sustainable development goals to end poverty, hunger, healthy lives, quality education, gender equality and sanitation to all, etc.
He strongly emphasized that it's our duty that by 2030 these goals be achieved and science need to play an important role and Science congress play an important role for such sustainable developments. Dignitaries on the dias also released abstract book of the 14th JK Science Congress.
Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary to Govt, Higher Education Dept, J&K, Guest of Honor in his address mentioned the previous century as century of Physics in which disruptive technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Internet of Things, etc play an important role on solving the societal problems. He said the young researchers need to learn the technical skills in which around 52% of research is focused on Artificial Intelligence.
Similarly, softer skills should be developed in University. He mentioned that the current market is of Digital Marketing, Python, Jawa, Reactant Python, R, etc. He also mentioned the next century as the century of Bio Sciences and urged that the process of learning and teaching should be incorporated. Young Researchers should focus on the areas of disaster management and bio sciences.
Earlier Prof Naresh Padha, Organising Secretary of 14th JK Science Congress in his welcome address dwelt in detail about various contours of Science, Technology and Innovative Council. He further said that more than 450 delegates from 16 disciplines shall present their research work and shall also be judged for their best oral and poster award.
He also illustrated the work of Dr S. N. Bose, Prof N Saha and Prof Mahalanobis to motivate the young researchers. Prof Padha also acknowledged the support offered by Dept of Science & Technology,J&K, MHRD, and DST.
Day first of JK Science Congress also witnessed plenary talk by Dr Dinesh Srivastav, Home Bhabha Chair Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies Campus, Bengaluru
Prof. Roopma Gandotra, Co-organizing Secretary presented a formal vote of thanks.
Prof Shashi Prabha conducted the proceedings of the function.
