DIS organises a seminar on Ladakh

JAMMU: Doon International School Jammu organised an enlightening seminar on Ladakh - The Land of Peace and Harmony which was attended by eminent personalities from Ladakh.

Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, IPS & Former Member of Parliament attended the program as the Chief Guest whereas Kacho Isfandyar Khan, IAS & Former Commissioner Secretary(J&K government) and Padmashri Chewang Norphel, popularly known as The Ice Man of India were the Guests of Honour.

Nayeem Lone, Rinchan Namgyal, Er. Arif Hussain, Sonam Angmo were the eminent speakers in the seminar. The speakers enlightened the students about the various prospects like tourism, agriculture, handicrafts, horticulture etc present in Ladakh.The seminar aimed at making the students aware of the people, geographical terrain, culture and heritage of Ladakh.

Chief Guest, Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan(IPS)in his address asserted that it is the people of Ladakh who have always stood in unity against all odds and maintained communal harmony inspite of Ladakh being a vast area having people from different sects and religions.

He appreciated the efforts of the chairman G.N. Tantray, Principal Dr Vikesh Kaur, the staff and students for reaching the pinnacle of success in a small period of 5 years.

The students were elated to meet Padmashri Chewang Norphel(The Iceman of India) and were mesmerized as he narrated his experience of inventing artificial glaciers which was the need of hour as Ladakh being a cold desert needs water in every season for agriculture purpose.

The students also presented a vibrant cultural programme where they displayed their talent through spectacular dance and singing performances. The students from Ladakh presented a melodious Ladakhi folk song which enticed the gathering.

On this occasion, students from Ladakh shared their experience of studying in DIS.

Principal Dr Vikesh Kaur in her address extended an overwhelming gratitude to the guests for their presence and interaction with the students. She further asserted that DIS is always ready to collaborate with the visionaries to provide the best possible education to children from Ladakh for the harmonious development of their mind, body and soul.
