North Zone Vice-Chancellors’ meet at SMVDU from today

JAMMU: For marathon discussion on developing employability and entrepreneurship through higher education, Vice-Chancellors of the North Zone are meeting at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra.

The two-day ‘North Zone Vice-Chancellors' Meet' on November 16-17 is being organized the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an apex body of Higher Education in the country.

Lt Governor, J&K G C Murmu will inaugurate the meet, in which senior officers from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD, University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Skill Ministry, NAAC and eminent experts of the field are participating, besides around 70 Vice-Chancellors of the North Zone, comprising of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir etc.

The topic of the meet is ‘Developing Employability and Entrepreneurship as cornerstones in Higher Education' and there will be three technical sessions for discussion on the same.

This was informed by Prof Ravinder Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor of the host university (SMVDU), while addressing a press conference along with Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General AIU and others, here.

"Developing employability and entrepreneurship as cornerstones in higher education is the need of the hour and objective of the meet is to help Indian higher education system to reach out to one and all who aspire to contribute to the country by producing highly educated, skilled mature intellectuals with strong moral character," said Prof Sinha.

Pointing out that the link between employability, entrepreneurship and education is specifically valid for modern India as youth accounts for one third of India's burgeoning population, the Vice-Chancellor stressed that the higher education has the huge responsibility to cater to this large group, help it to realize its potential to become self reliant, self sufficient and financially secure and contribute to the society.

Dr Pankaj Mittal, UGC Addl Secretary and Secretary General of AIU, anticipated a fruitful and meaningful interaction towards resolution and realization of the common agenda and said that this North Zone Vice-Chancellors' meet is a stepping stone ion this direction.

Throwing light on the AIU, which is acting as a valued source of research -based policy advice institution to Government of India in the field of higher education, she stressed that the Association has been playing a vital role in shaping Indian higher education by being integral part of all major decision making committee and commissions.

Dr Ranbir Singh, founder of the Law School and Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School; Dr Alok, Jt Secy E&M and others were also present in the press conference.
