Two week Refresher course concludes at JU

JAMMU: The two week long UGC interdisciplinary Refresher Course in Environmental Sciences for University and College teachers organized by UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), University of Jammu in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu concluded here today.

Dr Masud Ahmad Choudhary (IPS) former ADGP & Vice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, the chief guest on the occasion in his presidential address underlined the need for inculcating the habit of continuous reading and sharpening research skills among the teachers.

Dr Choudhary while recalling his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, BGSBU, wherein he engaged the best of the experts from the field of biodiversity from within and outside Country to develop a state of the art, Centre for biodiversity Studies emphasized the importance of conservation and preservation of environment.

Dr Choudhary on this occasion was also felicitated by the Jammu University for his distinguished services in the field of higher education. Dr Choudhary while complimenting Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, JU for his dynamic leadership also congratulated the HRDC JU for being pioneers in north India for organizing the career advancement courses for teachers of University and College.

He also stressed upon the necessity of interdisciplinary types of courses wherein the participants have the advantage of knowing and learning about the other subjects in addition to their own.

Prof Rahul Gupta, Director, HRDC in his address outlined the need and importance of these types of courses that provide an opportunity for the teachers to interact among themselves in addition to getting themselves updated in their concerned area of study by invited expert resource persons.

Earlier in his welcome address, Course Coordinator, Prof Rajkumar, Head, Department of Environmental sciences of the University outlined the contents of the course covered during the period of the course.

On this occasion, the participants of the course also expressed their views about the course thanked the HRDC and the Department of Environmental Science for this endeavor and expressed their deep satisfaction over the overall conduct of the course. The certificates were also given away to the participants.

Prof SPS Dutta, former head, Dept of Environmental Sciences was the guest of honour.

Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, HRDC presented the formal vote of thanks.

The course was successfully completed by 45 University and College teachers from within and outside the State.

Among others Prof Anil K Raina, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Piyush and Dr Vinay Thusoo, Spokesperson , University of Jammu and Irfan Goni, CDO, faculty members and staff of HRDC and EVS Dept. were also present on the occasion.
