JAMMU: Prof. K.R.Shivanna, Renowned Pollination Biologist of the country, presentely Honourable Senior Fellow, ATREE, Bengaluru delivered a lecture on 'GALAPAGOS ISLANDS: WHERE DARWIN'S THEORY OF EVOLUTION WAS BORN' on 18-09-2019 in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu.
The lecture was based on his week long visit to Galapagos islands where the renowned evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin got the idea of Natural selection.
Lecture gave brief background to the islands, the unique plants and animlas on the island, the details of the clues they provided to Darwin and the delay in the publication of Darwin's theory and its impact.
The lecture was graced by the presence of Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, who stressed upon the importance of such interactions.
Dr. A.K.Koul & Dr. T.N.Lakhanpal, prominent botanists were also present among the audience. Prof. Namrata Sharma, Head, Department of Botany welcomed the speaker and the guests and Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Senior Professor of the Department presented the formal vote of thamks.
Lecture was attended by more than 100 students and scholars besides the faculty of the Department of Botany including Prof. Veenu Kaul, Dr. Sikander Pal, Dr. Harish Dutt, Dr. Geeta and Dr. Skarma.
Prof. K.R. Shivanna was in Jammu in connection with Curriculum Reforms Workshop being organized under RUSA programme of University of Jammu.
