JU organises World Urdu Mushaira

JAMMU: In connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of University of Jammu the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu today organized a World Urdu Mushaira in collaboration with Academy of Art, Culture and languages.
The Mushira was attended by students, scholars and Members of the civil society. The reputed poet of the sub-continent Aresh Shahbai presided over the Mushira while Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar of the University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr Taqi Abedi a legendary urdu writer from Canada was the Guest of Honour. Various poets included Arsh Shahbai, Amin Banihali, Mohan Singh Ulfat, Dr. Liyaqat Jafri, Pervaiz Malik, Sunita Raina., Touseef Tabish, Betab Jaipuri, Pritpal Singh Betab, Balraj Bakshi recited their poetry and entertain the audience in the jam-packed Prof. Gian Chand Jain seminar Hall of the Department of Urdu.
In her speech Dr Meenakshi Kilam lauded the efforts of the department of urdu and cultural academy for organizing the World Urdu Mushira in connection with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of University of Jammu.
She congratulated the poets who presented in the Mushira for their marvelous performance. She described Urdu a language of peace, love, brother hood and complemented HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik for his efforts to promote Urdu language and literature in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam said that these types of activities promote the Communal Harmony and National Integration..
Dr Taqi Abedi in his speech described department of Urdu, University of Jammu as most vibrant department of Urdu world which is organizing Urdu literary functions frequently.
He said that he had come to Jammu by traveling 20,000 km from Canada and said that University of Jammu is always organizing the programs of high standard. He also threw light on the poetry which was presented today by different poets .
Prof. Mula Baksh from AMU, Dr Javeed Anwar from BHU, Sunita Raina from Delhi, Dr Fahim Akhter from London, Dr Taqi Abedi from Canada and others also presented their poetry which were highly appreciated by the audience.
The president of the Mushira Aresh Shahbai threw light on the origin and beginning of the Mushira . he said that Mushira has played a vital role in the promotion of language.
The welcome address was presented by HOD Urdu and Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik while vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Associate Professor of the department of Urdu, University of Jammu.
Dr. Khwaja Ekram-ud-din, Dr Md Mahsin, Dr Shakila Sahar and others also presented on the occasion.
