JU organizes one-week Gender Sensitization Workshop

JAMMU: One Week Workshop on Gender Sensitization under RUSA II organized by the Department of Sociology, University of Jammu was inaugurated today.
The workshop began with the introductory session wherein more than 60 participants including both faculty members and research scholars from different universities, colleges and departments across different disciplines participated.
Prof Vishav Raksha, Head Department of Sociology while welcoming the participants, briefed about the importance of conducting such workshops on the campus. The Inaugural Lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu who highlighted the importance of learning the concept of gender through early socialization. The two other sessions in the day were conducted by Prof Jasbir Singh, Professor in Economics and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Prof Vishav Raksha.
Prof Singh during his pictorial presentation helped the participants to understand the perception of gender construction. Prof Vishav Raksha through group activity sensitized the participants about the institution of Gender and Patriarchy. The workshop was co-ordinated by Dr. Hema Gandotra, Sr. Assistant Professor. Prof Abha Chauhan and Dr Shaveta Sharma were also present in the inaugural lecture.
The sessions for the day were conducted by Diksha Nargotra and BhanuPriya, Research Scholars of the Department.
