RAMBAN: District Magistrate Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan today directed the stakeholder departments to intensify efforts on a mission mode to make every panchayat in the district Nasha Mukt.

He issued these directions while chairing a meeting of the NCORD Committee in his office chambers today.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Additional SP Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, ACP Mohammad Ashfaq, CMO Dr. Kamal Je Zadu, CEO Mukhtar Ahmad, SDMs, CAO, CHO, Tehsildars, Drugs Control Officer, and other officers, with several joining through virtual mode.

The District Magistrate instructed all departments to organize extensive awareness programmes across the district, particularly in schools, colleges, and other institutions, to sensitize youth about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He directed ACD, ACP and BDOs to ensure mass public participation, especially of the youth, in these awareness campaigns.

Reviewing the measures taken by enforcement agencies, the DM emphasized the need for frequent joint inspections to curb drug abuse and narcotics trafficking. He directed the officers to track and apprehend drug peddlers along with their supply sources.

Further, the District Magistrate asked the ADC to adopt a coordinated strategy with SDMs and SDPOs to ensure all panchayats in every tehsil are made Nasha Mukt. He also directed the Police Department and SDMs to take swift action to destroy cannabis and poppy plantations if any in their respective jurisdictions.

Taking a review from the CMO regarding the treatment of patients undergoing de-addiction, the DM instructed him to ensure regular counseling and follow-up check-ups of recovered patients to prevent relapse.
