RAJOURI: Director Horticulture Jammu (DHJ) Gul Sayed today conducted an extensive tour of Rajouri district.
During the tour, he launched the rainy season plantation drive in the district by planting a sapling of Citrus plant in the farmer's field at village Channi of block Sunderbani in presence of Chief Horticulture Officer Rajouri Sushil Angurana, DHO Shafqat Hussain, DL- SMS Arshad Jamil, HDO Arun Kumar & farmers.
During the programme, the Director interacted with the farmers and explained in detail various government schemes run by the Department of Horticulture for the welfare of farmers. He highlighted the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and other centrally sponsored schemes.
He stressed the importance of setting up small-scale fruit processing units in the area, especially for women and unemployed youth. He said such initiatives would not only make them self-reliant but also generate employment opportunities.
The Director visited Govt. Fruit Plant Nursery, Siot wherein he inspected mother blocks of different fruit crops as well as nursery area. He took stock of the ongoing developmental activities in the nursery and gave on spot instructions to the nursery staff regarding the production of quality grafted planting material.
Further, Director Horticulture convened a meeting of the District Officers, HDO's, officials & field functionaries of district Rajouri and reviewed the implementation of different schemes in the district. He instructed the officers to organize awareness camps, Kissangoshtis, etc. to ensure better implementation of departmental schemes for the ultimate benefit of the farmers & fruit growers.
Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer Rajouri welcomed the Director Horticulture and briefed the chair about the ongoing works and physical/financial achievements made so far under different schemes being implemented in the district. |
