SHOPIAN: In compliance with the directions of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JK LSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, under the chairmanship of Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhury (Principal District & Sessions Judge & Chairman, DLSA Shopian) conducted a visit to the Central Jail Srinagar, today.
The team, led by Mudasar Farooq, Secretary DLSA Shopian, along with Adv. Rafie Ahmad Ganie, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC), Shopian, interacted with the under-trial prisoners (UTRs) currently lodged in the facility.
The visit was conducted in the presence of the Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar, ensuring a comprehensive review of the conditions and facilities provided to the inmates.
During the visit, DLSA team held detailed interactions with the inmates to gather feedback regarding the amenities and legal assistance available to them. The initiative is part of the ongoing Under-Trial Review Committee (UTRC) Campaign 2025, aimed at identifying eligible under-trial prisoners for potential legal remedies, including bail and speedy trials.
The findings from today's visit will be placed before the next UTRC meeting for further necessary action.
DLSA Shopian reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring access to justice and safeguarding the legal rights of prisoners, in line with the mandates of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and JK LSA.
This visit underscores DLSA Shopian's proactive efforts in prison legal aid and jail reforms ensuring that no under-trial prisoner remains incarcerated due to lack of legal awareness or assistance.
