PULWAMA: District administration Pulwama, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare office, today organised a mega event at Government Degree College Pulwama to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day).
The event focused on raising awareness about drug abuse and the need for community-level prevention.
Resource persons shared insights on the current situation of substance abuse and highlighted the importance of early interventions. They stressed that prevention is both cost-effective and essential for public health.
On the occasion, medical experts spoke about the health risks associated with drug abuse and underlined the importance of timely treatment and counseling. They also discussed the role of awareness in preventing addiction among youth.
An interactive session was also held, where participants took part in discussions and activities aimed at encouraging a drug-free lifestyle.
Besides, a collective pledge was also taken by the participants and stakeholders, affirming their resolve to build a drug-free and healthy environment in their respective communities.
The event was attended by the officials from the Department of Social Welfare, staff of District Mission Coordinator (Mission Shakti), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), ASHAs, Self Help Group (SHG) members, while students from various colleges and youth also participated in the programme.
