DC administers pledge against drug abuse; warns strict action against peddlers in Budgam

BUDGAM: In context with the International Day against Drug Abuse, a one day seminar was organised by district administration Budgam in collaboration with the Social Welfare department, here today.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat presided over the function as chief guest.

Besides ADC Budgam, CMO, DSWO, DIO, representatives from education department, other officers and officials of the department were present on the occasion.

The event witnessed active participation from students, officials, and civil society members, reflecting a collective commitment towards combating the menace of drug abuse in the district.

On the occasion, DC administered a pledge to the participants against drug abuse. He emphasised generating massive awareness on drug abuse, followed by enforcement and treatment to curb the menace in the society

He said, though the civil and police administrations are doing their part efficiently, however, as a society we all have to play the role and save our youth.

Dr Bilal warned of strict action by the district administration against peddlers, assuring that every single peddler will be put behind bars.

DC said small camps need to be organised at village level so that awareness against the menace of drugs percolates to the person living in the last corner of the district.

He emphasized the crucial role that parents, teachers, and educational institutions play in addressing this pressing social issue. He highlighted that timely guidance and emotional support from families and mentors can act as the first line of defense against substance abuse among youth.

DC said, "we should treat drug victims as a patient not as a criminal, so that together we could take him out from this drug- net which is spreading in our community at large."

The programme featured thought-provoking skits performed by students and artists from the Cultural Academy, conveying powerful messages on the consequences of drug addiction and the importance of community involvement in prevention efforts.

Earlier, DSWO reiterated the department's commitment to continuing awareness drives, community outreach initiatives, and support services under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and other welfare schemes.

Later during the felicitation ceremony, DC felicitated those who have excelled in marathon, volleyball, basketball, yoga & meditation competitions.
