Shantmanu releases Vandana Sharma's Book "Therapeutic Thoughts"

JAMMU: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Education, Shantmanu, today released the English translation of "Therapeutic Thoughts", a profound rendering of Vichar Oshdi originally penned by eminent writer Santosh Sangra.

The translation has been skillfully accomplished by Professor Vandana Sharma and Dr. Shachi Sood.

The book release event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), drawing a galaxy of writers, intellectuals and academicians from across the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Shantmanu remarked, "a book deepens your roots and broadens your horizon." He appreciated the lucid and meaningful translation work, emphasizing that such books must find a place in every academic institution's library. He also recited a few poems of his own in Hindi. He appreciated the author and the translator for writing and translating a purposeful book.

In her welcome address, Harvinder Kaur, Secretary, JKAACL, noted that the content of the book is both distinct and inspirational. She highlighted its relevance for the younger generation, stating, "The book inspires us to live a balanced life."

Professor Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu, praised the translators for their sensitive rendition, stating, "They have translated the book into sense, not just into sentences."

Santosh Sangra, the original author, read the selected excerpts from Vichar Oshdi, reflecting on themes of female empowerment and liberation.

Professor Vandana Sharma, Dean, School of Languages, Central University of Jammu, in her translator's address, described translation as a bridge between cultures. She added that her effort was not just to translate but to "transcreate," ensuring the spirit of the original resonates with today's readers, especially the youth.

Professor Gitanjali Rana, Principal, GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, presented a thoughtful review of the translated work. Among the audience, Dr. Avrinder Amar, Former Additional Secretary, JKAACL, spoke on the pivotal role of women as the foundation of the family.

Dr. Vandana Sharma, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, CUJ, reviewed the original work Vichar Oshdi, while Dr. Nancy Mengi, HoD, Social Work, CUJ, offered an insightful overview of the book's representation of women's strength.
