DLSA Shopian conducts awareness program on Women's Rights

SHOPIAN: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian organized an impactful awareness program today at NRLM Shopian, focusing on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, Property Rights, and Workplace Discrimination.

The program was conducted under the directions of Chairman DLSA Shopian Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhury and aimed to educate and empower women about their legal rights and available remedies under Indian law.

The program featured legal experts as key speakers, including Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC), Rafie Ahmad Ganie; Deputy Chief LADC, Shahnawaz Raina and Assistant LADC, Amir Ayoub.

Speakers elaborated on critical issues such as Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005, Legal safeguards and remedies for survivors, Property Rights of Women ensuring equal inheritance and ownership rights, Workplace Discrimination and addressing gender bias and legal recourse under labor laws.

The session included interactive discussions, case studies and a Q&A segment where participants raised concerns and sought guidance on legal procedures.

Chief LADC emphasized that awareness is the first step towards justice.

DLSA Shopian is committed to ensuring that women know their rights and can access legal aid without hesitation.

The event was conducted in collaboration with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) Shopian, reinforcing the importance of legal literacy in women's empowerment and social justice.
