UDHAMPUR: Principal District and Sessions Judge (Chairman DLSA) Udhampur Virinder Singh Bhou led a visit of the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) here to District Jail to assess cases of individuals recommended to the Committee.

Accompanied by Dr. Smriti Sharma Secretary District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Advocate Pawan Gupta, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) and Advocate Viney Singh, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Udhampur.

The Chairman and Secretary DLSA inquired about the charges against the individuals, the progress of their cases, and any legal representation they currently had.

Further they interacted with other inmates, inquiring about their problems and grievances related to their confinement. They visited barracks to assess their condition. The Chairman checked the quality of the food provided to the inmates. He also inspected the overall hygiene of facilities, including cleanliness of the washrooms.

During the interaction, the Secretary emphasised the importance of the Right to Free Legal Aid and Legal Representation. She explained to the inmates how they could access these rights and the procedures involved in seeking legal assistance. This was crucial in ensuring that the inmates understood their entitlements and the support available to them under the law.
